Aum Resort: Resort Architecture & Interior Design in Alur, Bengaluru

Aum Resort is an ongoing 7,500 sq ft resort project on a 2-acre site in Alur, Bengaluru, with architecture and interior design developed as part of the scope. The owners wanted a boutique retreat rather than a conventional hospitality property, with the existing coconut and areca plantation remaining central to the experience.

The brief focused on preserving as much of the mature plantation canopy as possible. Instead of clearing the land for a large building, the design needed to keep the built form modest and allow guests to experience the existing landscape, shade, and character of the site.

Rather than creating a single resort block, the 7,500 sq ft built-up area is distributed across individual cottages positioned between the existing palm trees. Their varied placement avoids a repetitive layout while keeping the built footprint low across the 2-acre property.

Each cottage has a pitched country-tile roof, generous overhangs, and a private verandah, creating comfortable spaces suited to Alur's warm climate and monsoon conditions. Laterite stone and board-formed exposed concrete are used for plinths and feature walls, allowing the materials to age naturally within the plantation setting. A central pavilion forms the main gathering space, accommodating reception, dining, and common lounge areas around a shallow water feature. Stone pathways connect the cottages and pavilion while winding through the plantation rather than imposing a rigid circulation pattern.
